Fixing a Package Group That Has Already Been Used
One powerful feature at a time.
Fixing a Package Group That Has Already Been Used
The Problem
You spot a mistake in a package group after you have already packaged with it. Maybe a 4-pack uses 0.30 of a cardboard flat when it should use a sixth, or it points at the wrong item, or an item should not be consumed at all. BarSight locks the items and quantities of a used group, so you cannot just edit them.
The Solution
Copy the group, fix the copy, and remove the old one. Everything you packaged before keeps pointing at the old group, so your history stays exactly as it was. Every batch you package from now on uses the corrected group.
How to Use It
- Go to Brewery → Packaged Products, click Settings, then Configure Package Groups.
- Open the group with the mistake. Change its Title to something like "4-Pack (old)" and click Save & Back, then open it again. This keeps the two groups easy to tell apart.
- Click Copy Group, enter the correct name, and confirm. The copy opens right away.
- In Items in Group, change the item, the Quantity or the Consume setting.
- Click Save & Back.
- Open the old group again and click Remove Group. Because it has been used, it moves to the Removed list instead of being deleted.

What the Copy Includes
The copy is an exact duplicate, so you only change the one thing that is wrong. Items, quantities, Consume settings, group settings, product defaults and customer price list prices all come across. See Defining Packaging Groups for the details.
What About 0.30?
Six 4-packs in a flat means each 4-pack uses one sixth of a flat, which is about 0.1667. 0.33 would be a third of a flat, which means 3 four-packs per flat instead of 6. BarSight keeps two decimal places on this quantity, so enter 0.17. It is the closest value available, and across a full flat it works out to 2% more cardboard than the flat holds.
Pro Tip
Stock you already packaged stays in the old group, and it is still sellable. Do not use Merge Group to move it across. Merge moves the old packaging history onto the new group, which is the opposite of what you want here.
