Safely Deleting Package Groups
One powerful feature at a time.
Safely Deleting Package Groups
The Problem
You've discontinued a package size or container type, but you're worried that removing the package group might break old orders or mess up your inventory records. Maybe you switched from 12oz cans to 16oz cans, or you stopped using a specific keg size. What happens to all those past sales?
The Solution
BarSight handles removal based on whether the group has ever been used. A group that has been used to package a batch is moved to the Removed list instead of being deleted. It won't appear when you create products, orders or new packages, but your historical data stays completely intact.
How It Works
There are two scenarios when removing a package group:
Scenario 1: Unused Package Group
If the group was never used to package a batch, BarSight permanently deletes it, along with its list of items. It was never part of your records.
Scenario 2: Used Package Group (Most Common)
If the group has been used, it is kept and marked as removed:
- Historical orders remain intact - Past customer orders still show the correct package type
- Existing inventory is still visible - Products already packaged in this group still appear in stock and can be sold
- New selections are blocked - The group no longer appears in the lists you pick from when you create a product, add an item to an order or package a batch
- It can't be edited - A removed group is kept for your records and is read-only
How to Remove a Package Group
- Go to Brewery → Packaged Products, click Settings, then Configure Package Groups
- Click on the package group you want to remove
- Click the Remove Group button at the top of the form
- Confirm the removal

What You'll Notice After Removal
- Creating new orders: The removed group won't appear in the package group list
- Viewing existing inventory: Products packaged with the removed group still display correctly with the package name
- The Removed list: On the Package Groups page, click Removed to see it again
Pro Tip
This is perfect for phasing out discontinued packages! Remove the group to stop new batches from using it, and sell through the stock you already have. If a group has a mistake in it, copy it, fix the copy, and remove the old one.
