Merging Duplicate Package Groups

One powerful feature at a time.

Merging Duplicate Package Groups

The Problem

You've ended up with duplicate package groups, maybe "473ml 4-pack" and "4-pack 473ml", or a group an import created straight from your spreadsheet's package column. Now you have batches, inventory and pricing split across both. Updating everything by hand would take hours and risk missing products or losing pricing data.

The Solution

The package group merge consolidates two groups in one operation. BarSight switches every batch, every packaged stock record and every package item mapping to the surviving group, and migrates pricing from the old group to fill any gaps in the new one. Your historical data stays intact.

How to Merge Package Groups

  1. Navigate to Brewery → Final Products, open the Settings menu and choose Configure Package Groups
  2. Click the package group you want to merge from (the one that will be removed)
  3. Click Merge Group in the toolbar
  4. Select the package group you want to merge into (the one that will survive)
  5. Click Merge and confirm

Before You Merge: Requirements

A group with no inventory items, which is what the orders and LDB imports create, can be merged into any group. Two groups that both have items must match in every way that affects volume and costing:

  • Same container: identical volume and unit, and the same number of containers per package
  • Same settings: the same SKU multiplier, tank settings and consume setting on the container
  • Identical inventory items: the same number of items, and every item in one group present in the other (cans, lids, labels, trays)

What Happens During the Merge

  • All batches that used the old group now reference the new group
  • All packaged stock, batch-created and manual, is switched to the new group
  • Package item mappings are remapped to the new group's items
  • Product pricing is migrated: missing price rows are copied, and empty prices, taxes, SKUs, UPCs and deposits in the new group are filled from the old group
  • The old package group is set to Removed, and shows under the Removed filter on the Package Settings page

Important Warnings

  • This cannot be undone. Once merged, the references are permanently updated
  • Existing prices win. A price already set in the surviving group is never overwritten
  • Consume settings matter. The surviving group's consume settings apply to everything merged into it going forward

Pro Tip

If you want the old group's pricing to win, merge in the opposite direction, or clear the prices in the surviving group first so they are filled from the group you remove.
